Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is located in the Human Resources Administration Team of the Human Resources Section (HRS), Executive Office, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva, with the following modalities: In-person, Remote, Hybrid, Full-time, Part-time. OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions. The HR Administration Team provides support for the administration of benefits and entitlements as well as contract administration for OCHA International field-based staff members, OCHA International and Local staff members based in Geneva. The intern reports to a Human Resources Officer. The Internship is for three (3) months with a possible extension up to six months, with preferred start date from 13 July 2026 to 12 October 2026. The internship is UNPAID and Full-time. The Intern works five days per week under the supervision of a Human Resources Officer. Responsibilities The intern works as a full member of the HR Administration team, handling assignments that are designed to make a significant impact on the work of the Unit, and has opportunities to learn about the field of human resources and the United Nations overall. The internship will focus on the following areas: 1) Maintains HR-related automated systems and applications including automated databases containing HR related information by sorting, classifying and uploading onto the OCHA HR filing system relevant documents. 2) Maintains HR-related files/records (electronic and paper) and assists the HR Officer by conducting initial review to ensure accuracy of the files/records. 3) Conducts periodic follow-ups directly with staff members to ensure complete documents submission (electronic and paper) related to applications for UN travel documents or other HR-related documents staff will submit to the HR Administration Team. 4) Provides general support services; processes, drafts, edits, proofreads and finalizes for signature/approval a variety of correspondence and other communications. 5) Schedules appointments/meetings and monitors deadlines. 6) Initiating and carrying out other assigned tasks/special projects.

Qualifications/special skills

(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
